Othon d`Eça Cals de Abreu

CEO of the Kepler Weber Group, business administrator with MBA from Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Director of companies Kepler Weber S.A., Kepler Weber Industrial S.A., Kepler Weber Inox Ltda., Kepler Weber Peças e Serviços Ltda. and GKS International Company. Began his tenure as Chairman of the Board in 1996 and took over as chief executive of the group in June 1999. Accumulated experience and knowledge in his period in Banco do Brasil as superintendent of the State of Santa Catarina in 1995 and 1996, and in Besc Financeira S.A., as director from 1975 to 1984. Currently the vice-president of the Association of Agricultural Machines and Implements of Rio Grande do Sul, and a permanent member of the Business Leaders Forum of Gazeta Mercantil Newspaper.

Homenagem 50 anos da ABCS

Gessulli Agribusiness paid a special tribute to the Brazilian Association of Swine Breeders (ABCS) for its 50 years completed in 2005. The plaque was presented in the regional version of AveSui Latin America, held in September in Goiania (GO). ABCS was founded in 1955 in the municipality of Estrela (RS). Rubens Valentini, newly elected president of the ABCS, and José Adão Braun, predecessor, and honorary president of the 50th anniversary, received the plaque presented by Gessulli Agribusiness.

Mr. Roberto Kaefer

Roberto Kaefer

President of the Globoaves Group, Roberto Kaefer was born in Roque Gonzales, inland city of Rio Grande do Sul. Moved with his family to the city of Toledo, Parana in his infancy. Studied accountancy there, and later business administration. With his father, Henry Kaefer, and his brothers, founded Globo Comércio, which later became the Globoaves. His role in the company has always been to direct the procurement department, promoting and expanding the company's activities. Today, Globoaves has production units (aviaries, feed mills and hatcheries) spread across Parana, Sao Paulo and Mato Grosso, with over 1,500 direct employees and over 3,200 indirect jobs. Vice-president of the Commercial Association of Cascavel (ACIC), and member of the board of directors of associations such as the Brazilian Poultry Union (UBA), the Brazilian Association of Broiler Chicks (Apinco), and the Association of Poultry Slaughterhouses and Producers of Paraná ( AVIP).

Mr. Arthur Gruber

Arthur Gruber

Associate Professor of the Department of Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics of Universidade de São Paulo (USP), Arthur Gruber is one of the most respected researchers worldwide in the field of molecular biology of parasites of the genus Eimeria. Member of the group of scientists of the International Consortium of the Eimeria tenella Genome. In Brazil, the group led by Gruber develops innovative systems for the molecular diagnosis of this type of parasite. He holds a degree in veterinary medicine, and a doctorate in biochemistry from USP, where he defended a thesis on the molecular biology of Trypanosoma cruzi, the causative agent of Chagas disease in 1994. In 2003, defended thesis for title of professor, also at USP, addressing avian coccidiosis. Participated in the research group of the FAPESP Genome Project in 1997, led to the deciphering of the first genome of a plant pathogen worldwide, the Xylella fastidiosa. For this work, he received the Scientific and Technological Merit Award of the State of São Paulo in 2000. A native of Sao Paulo, Gruber is married and 40 years old. His first contact with poultry and avian pathology was in 1986, in a traineeship where he worked with avian colibacillosis. He also serves as a consultant to Biovet Laboratory, which develops a system of molecular differentiation of the strains of three distinct species of Eimeria. He was also the coordinator of the 9th International Conference on Coccidiosis, held in Brazil in September 2004.

Mr. Otaviano Olavo Pivetta

Otaviano Olavo Pivetta

Rural entrepreneur of the State of Mato Grosso, Otaviano Pivetta began early in the swine industry. Native of Caiçara, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, and was influenced by his father, a swine breeder since the 1960s, to open his own business in swine breeding in Sarandi Farm. In it, expanded business, cultivating soybeans, cotton, rice, corn, and of course, pigs, creating the Vanguarda Group. From Rio Grande do Sul, moved to Mato Grosso in 1983. In the state, actively participated in the organization of various entities, and was one of the founders of Cooagril, Intercoop and the Swine Breeders Association of Mato Grosso (Acrismat). His major achievement in the swine business was the creation of the Granja Ideal Porc in Nova Mutum (MT), which specializes in high standard, high health swine, produced without the use of antibiotics. Granja Ideal Porc has over six thousand swine. In public life, Pivetta was mayor of Lucas do Rio Verde (MT) for two terms (1997-2000 and 2001/2004). He is currently the Secretary for Rural Development of Mato Grosso.

Werner Meincke

Technical Director of Genetiporc of Brazil since 1994, Werner Meincke is an eyewitness of the various stages of swine production in Brazil. Graduated in veterinary medicine from Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM) in 1973, began working professionally in the sector in Languiru cooperative in the city of Teutonia (RS). In that period, began to devote himself to the Brazilian Association of Swine Breeders (ABCS), acting as a livestock inspector in Rio Grande do Sul. One of the pioneers to work with artificial insemination of pigs in Brazil. In this area, conducted training courses and specializations in Boxtel, Netherlands, and in Hanover, Germany, in 1975 and 1976. President of the Swine Breeders Association of Rio Grande do Sul (Acsurs) from 1982 to 1987, and worked for ten years as director of the Artificial Insemination Center of Estrela (RS), the first in the country.
